Commenting on
natural cataclysms recently rushed over Dniestria, the chief specialist of
weather-forecast department of the DMR State Meteorological service Valentin
Anisimov said in interview to the agency “Olvia-press” correspondent, that the
year 2002 was ‘abnormal’. By his words, “there was no such weather since 1898”.
As the State
Meteorological service representative said, this winter should have been dry
and warm and the summer, according to the law of energy keeping, cool and wet. But
it did not happened. For recent years, the average annual air temperature in
the Europe, including Dniestria, has aversely raised for 0.7ºC. in particular,
this year the average day temperature in Tiraspol should have consisted
12.4ºC, but it was fixed on level of 13.1ºC. Meteorology scientists
consider that global warming of the air temperature happened because of two
reasons. The first one is the greenhouse effect, which appeared in consequence
of burning and throwing of the carbon dioxide into atmosphere that led to
increasing of number of ozone holes. The second reason is warming of the
Golfstream for 0.5ºC.
Explaining
reasons of rough worsening of weather in the Europe, which led to numerous
destruction and human victims, Valentin Anisimov remarked that the cataclysms
in countries of the Southern and Central Europe occurred because of
Mediterranean cyclones. Ones of them became the reason of destruction in a
number of living areas of Dniestria: in the village of Gyska, situated near the
town of Bendery; village of Ulm in Rybnitsa district, in a number of villages
of Grigoriopol and Dubossary districts. Most of all, private home suffered, situated
near small rivers and reservoirs. No human victims were fixed in the cataclysms
districts.
It’s worth
mentioning that in the DMR territory, observation of the hydrological situation
is done by 24 hydrological posts, which 24 hours a day, at fixed time, present
results of observation of water level in the river Dniester and small rivers to
the republican hydro-meteorological. By words of the deputy head of staff of
the DMR Civil Protection, colonel Vladimir Sirotenko, because of drought in
July and minimal water-throw from the Novodnestrovski hydroelectric power
station (in the Ukraine), the threat of overflow of the Dniester is practically
‘null’. Small rivers are the ones that represent a real threat. For today,
preventive measures have been taken in order to protect living areas from flood.
Weak points in dams are enforced, bank-strengthening works are done. Storm
alarms are broadcast to all towns and districts of the republic.
By words of
Vladimir Sirotenko, “the republican staff of Civil Protection is practically
ready for prevention of natural calamities”.
By forecasts of
the DMR Meteorological service specialists, in the nearest time – on August
15th, 16th, and 17th – the territory of our republic will
remain under influence of the Mediterranean cyclone. Its epicenter will be
placed over the Ukraine. Dniestria will be under the western part of the
cyclone. It supposes not hot weather, sometimes with rains and thunder. When
thundering, squall winds are possible, with the speed of 15-20m a second. The night
temperatures will be 15-20ºC, the day ones – 22-25ºC.
Then the cyclone
will lose its strength. The area of higher atmosphere pressure will change it; rains
will stop. The air temperature will increase again, but by forecasts of the
meteo-center, the average day temperature will be considerably lower in
comparison with July.
