On August 6th, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Dniester Moldavian Republic Grigory Marakutsa had a meeting with representatives of the foreign mass media Svetan Tomchev, correspondent of the Bulgarian newspaper ‘Trud’, and with the journalist of the US newspaper ‘The Christian Science Monitor’ Matthew Brunswasser. The circle of questions discussed at the meeting mainly concerned relations of the Dniestrian authority towards the idea of federalization and withdrawal of the armed vehicles and ammunition from the Dniester Moldavian Republic.

Grigory Marakutsa was straightforward and sincere, when answering the questions of the foreign journalists concerning the idea of federalization of the Republic of Moldova. “We did not receive any proposals either from the OSCE, or from Russia, or from the Ukraine as guarantee countries and mediators. And that’s why we cannot discuss further vision of the situation on basis of newspaper publications”. Grigory Marakutsa paid special attention of the foreign journalists at one typical detail in proposals of the OSCE.  He declared, “These were namely our proposals presented to Moldova as far as January 6th 1993. That time we had already offered the formula of constructing our relationship by type of CONFEDERATION”.

In response to request of the American journalist to comment on interest of the foreign countries in the federalization of Moldova, the Supreme Council Chairman emphasized, “Every people has the right for foundation of its own state”. “It’s the right of every human being, and should be respected. All this time we have been showing and proving to Moldova beside the unitary principle, there exist principles of federation and confederation, according to which many countries of the world live, and do it quite well ”.

Concerning problems of searching ways out of the existing situation, Grigory Marakutsa remarked, “history cannot be stopped, and we agree to search compromise with the Republic of Moldova, we are ready to found a CONFEDERATION with it ”. In his opinion, the world community has already come to understanding of irreversibility of that process, and started making certain pressure upon authority of Moldova, so that it changed its position and move away from the principles of unitarism.

Furthermore, Grigory Marakutsa categorically rejected any possibility of production and sale of weapons in the territory of Dniestria. Answering the question about reality of existence of joint armed forces, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Dniester Moldavian Republic remarked, “according to international norms, it’s unacceptable to use the army for resolution of the internal conflicts. So why should one keep and feed it? Isn’t it better to give these means to the poor?”

In conclusion, Grigory Marakutsa expressed his wish to the foreign journalists for them to reflect the contents of the conversation objectively, having remarked that there should have no closed topics for discussion. And he added, “We may discuss any topics. We have no secrets from anyone. Only one thing is important: topics we discuss should be reflected in the aspect and in the recourse we have talked».
