THE UNITED
COUNCIL OF WORKING COLLECTIVES CELEBRATED ITS 13th ANNIVERSARY
On August 9th,
the United Council of Working Collectives (UCWC) celebrated its 13th
Anniversary; this public association stood at the origins of our republic. By
that occasion, in Tiraspol united museum there took place the solemn meeting
with participation of the UCWC veterans.
The present
Chairman of the United Council of Working Collectives of Tiraspol Boris Safonov
had a speech at the meeting, as well as Chairmen last years: Boris Shtefan, Vladimir
Emelianov, and Vladimir Nikoliuk. Boris Shtefan, who some time ago was the UCWC
first head, related about birth of the organization, about the UCWC first
conference at the plant named after Kirov. As Boris Shtefan said, the UCWC initially had only social
objectives: protection of interests of the working collectives, assistance to
backward enterprises, etc. But time however decided otherwise: the United
Council stood at head of the political strike, having become the leader of the
Dniestrian resistance.
As Vladimir
Emelianov, in early 90s, quite different things happened – “like on edge of
revolution”. The UCWC participated in preparation of referendums on
independence of Dniestria; later – in establishment of power structures of the
republic. Today the United Council is not a side observer, too. The UCWC
members keep on struggling for rights of the republic. Last summer, mainly due
to principal position of the UCWC, explosions on the Russian Troops Limited
Contingent gunnery range were stopped.
Besides, the UCWC
recent years have been holding large ideological and political work the goal of
which is to keep the memory about events of early 90s. Tiraspol united museum
actively helps the UCWC members in that deal; together with the museum, 17 TV
programs about the DMR have already been made.
For 13 years, the
United Council of Working Collectives has proved its vital abilities. But today
it should not stay calmed: activity of the organization has not only successes
but also shortcomings. The latter are first of all reflected in the social
sphere. As Vladimir Emelianov, the UCWC practically missed problems, connected
with privatization of the republican property. These problems worry all working
collectives without exception. Protection of their rights is necessary like
never before.
