The issue of settling the
Moldavian-Dniestria conflict causes live interest of the world community.
Guarantee countries are the ones that are especially interested in soonest
resolution of the Dniestrian problem, moreover that due to their efforts, the
negotiation process frozen the last year managed to be pushed from the dead
point.
Considerable role also
belongs to the Ukraine due to which Moldova was been forced to come back to the
negotiation table and restart the negotiation process within the quanta-lateral
format. The Ukraine is one of the guarantee countries of the negotiation
process between Kishinev and Tiraspol. The explicit and consistent position of
the authority and MFA of the Ukraine testifies about its sincere interest as of
the mediator so that to reach optimal agreements between Kishinev and Tiraspol
as soon as possible, and eventually it means, to resolve the Dniestrian
problem. The deputy secretary of state of the Ukranian MFA Igor Harchenko
answers the question of the correspondent of the agency “Interfax-Ukraina”,
thus testifying about that.
QUESTION:
“Lately
the President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin made several important declarations
on the Dniestrian resolution. There is a declaration of the US representatives.
What can you say about this process?”
IGOR HARCHENKO:
“We greet all international
efforts that will contribute to resolution of the Dniestrian problem. It’s
clear that this topic causes great interest, for almost a year negotiations
have been frozen. As one of the guarantee countries of the Dniestrian
settlement, the Ukraine was basing on the fact that the only way of resolving
this problem is holding regular negotiations between the parties. And the
quanta-lateral format is the most optimal variant; unanimous appreciation of
experts testify about that”.
During the last year, we
have consistently voted restarting of the dialogue between Kishinev and
Tiraspol. After great efforts, negotiations restarted in Kiev on July 2nd-3rd.
Mediators offered a draft document to the parties; according to their opinions,
this draft might become basis for further resolution and might answer the key
question – regarding the status of Dniestria.
According to recent
information, the parties expressed willingness to work on these documents. This
already gives reason for optimism. The meeting of the parties and guarantee
countries, which will take place in Kishinev in August, will give a new impulse
to that work.
Advancement is thus expected
in the process of resolution of the Dniestrian conflict. The Ukraine as a
guarantee country will furthermore apply all efforts, so that the process would
not lose positive dynamism, so that the parties would reach the agreement as
soon as possible.
