THE DMR: 12 YEARS OF STRUGGLE AND HOPE

 

Today, on the eve of the Independence day of the Dniester Moldavian Republic, in Tiraspol there took place the solemn sitting devoted to the 12th anniversary of the DMR foundation.

In Tiraspol, in the Palace of Republic there gathered heads of ministries and departments, the Supreme Council deputies, the heads of towns’ and districts administrations, representatives of working collectives of enterprises and institutions, the public of Dniestria as well as numerous guests of our state. Among them there was the Russian Federation State Duma delegation headed by the Chairman of the Commission on contribution to settlement of political and economic situation in Dniestria, the deputy Gheorghi Tihonov, the Ukrainian Supreme Rada deputies, delegations of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Southern Ossetia, Gagauz-Yeri, representatives of district and town administrations of the Ukraine, of the Ukrainian and Belorussian Cossacks’ Army, of clergy, representatives of Embassies of Belarus and the Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova, and also famous public benefactors of the neighboring states.

The President of the Dniester Moldavian Republic Igor Smirnov opened the solemn sitting. Summing up the 12-year-life of the republic, and making a report, the head of the state marked the results of political, economic, social, and cultural domains of living activity of Dniestria. “Within the world history, foundation of the Dniester Moldavian Republic may serve an example of a really democratic process of creating a state in strict conformity with international norms and rules”, remarked the DMR President. Igor Smirnov also defined the major objectives of further development of Dniestria, perspectives of enforcing the Dniestrian statehood.

Celebrating Dniestrians with the Independence day, the RF State Duma deputy Chairman of the Commission on contribution to settlement of political and economic situation in Dniestria Pavel Burdukov on behalf of all patriots of Russia expressed solidarity with the DMR people in his struggle for the right of free life in native land. The RF State Duma representative emphasized, “Today in the world, there is a complicated battle between the principle of inviolability of frontiers and the right of peoples for self-determination. And the world practice however shows that the principle of self-determination prevails. That’s why I am sure that fairness will triumph; and the fairness consists in the fact that you could freely choose by what laws to live and what future to construct”.

Ghennady Udovenko, the Ukrainian Supreme Rada human rights’ committee Chairman, one of leaders of the People’s Ruh, remarked in his speech, “Time has shown that the Dniester Moldavian Republic was a self-sufficient state. The whole world has seen it”. Commenting on contemporary situation of relations between Dniestria and Moldova, he declared, “It is necessary that the economic blockade of the DMR should be immediately cancelled for normal continuation of the negotiation process”. The Supreme Rada deputy emphasized, “Dniestria is like an piece of heart for the Ukraine”, so that’s why the Ukrainians sincerely hope for “fair settlement” of the Moldavian-Dniestrian relationship.

The Metropolitan of Odessa and Izmail Highly Sacred Agafanghel celebrated Dniestrians on behalf of the Ukrainian Russian Orthodox Church. His Highly Sacredness emphasized the important role of the President Igor Smirnov in foundation and development of the Dniester Moldavian Republic: “The people has seen a spiritual and state leader in him, who may lead them, and who is an example in labor and creativity”. Having marked that particular attention drawn by the Dniestrian authority at revival of spirituality, His High Sacredness wished that “Goodness of our Lord Jesus Christ would always exist in Dniestria”.

On behalf of Southern Ossetia authority, the Presidential counselor Konstantin Kochiev celebrated Dniestrians with the 12th anniversary of Dniestrian statehood. The Southern Ossetia Presidential counselor said, “We admire your people who have managed to stand for its freedom and dignity. I am sure that the people with such traditions have great future”.

The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic celebrates its Independence day the same day with Dniestria. Making a speech, the Chairman of the NKR National Assembly permanent Commission on state-legal issues Yury Ayrapetian expressed confidence, “The already succeeded Dniester Moldavian Republic will take a difficult but real mission upon itself: of being an comprehensively exemplary state of the given region”.

After numerous celebrations from the guests with occasion of the Dniestrian Independence Day, a solemn concert continued the actions.
